Romsey Young Carers can offer a confidential service providing young carers with a befriender - someone who will take them out on fun outings and someone to talk to.
Although most befrienders are linked one-to-one with a young carer, we also have family befrienders. This is where a family will take on support of a young carer, often resulting in the young carer attending outings with the volunteer's own children.
We also have group befrienders where two of three volunteers will take out a small group of young carers.
We don't put a volunteer forward to be a befriender unless both they and we feel confident with them in this role. This is usually after they have been actively involved with Romsey Young Carers for a while.
There is a limited number of volunteers who are able to act as a befriender, so we are only able to offer this service to a small number of young carers.
